Saturday sunshine and a SSW breeze tempted out 11 boats for the first races in the Asymmetric cup and MJM trophy.
In the asymmetric series, John/James showed Neil/Archie a clean pair of heels in both races. All were racing RS400s, and Neil/Archie were still getting to grips with their bigger, light weather, boat but the wind was stronger than anticipated. Also, they didn’t aid their cause in the first race when they were caught out by the separate start for the asymmetrics!
The MJM races were led by Neil/Rory in their F15 as was Ian who had teamed with Tim for their first race of the season. In the GPs, AJ/Sue were on top form taking two convincing wins from Val/Ken. The conditions were a bit too strong for Mike/Jack in their Graduate, and they had two DNFs after a capsize in the first race, and filling up in the second.
By Sunday morning the wind had swung to the more usual WSW, and freshened slightly, but any warmth from Saturday was just a memory! Fortunately the forecast showers were a no-show.
In the handicap fleet there were three different classes (RS400, F15 and GP14) so there was no close racing, and they only opted to have one race. The race was won by Val/Ken in their GP, but Neil/Archie lead the series.
In the slow handicap Alex/Saskia were sandwiched between Bean/Lucy in a Mirror and Oliver in a Tera in the first race, although they led the next race for a while, Bean took another win and leads the series.
