Congratulations to Keith Jamieson and Maf Smith on attaining second overall in the Flying Fifteen Classic Nationals held at Abersoch last week. Word has it he was beaten by age!
Saturday’s racing was held in light to medium airs with a turnout of 10 boats for the 2nd fleet challenge trophy of the season. The asymmetrics weren’t able to gain ground offwind because of the lack of gusts, so it was Tim Smith that took the overnight lead.
Roy and Kayla had some close racing with William and Lesley for the first couple of races, indeed William only got past in the second race when Roy hit the windward mark – Roy must have thought he could walk on water at that stage because he had been flying the gennaker on a leg so close that it could have been a beat, and still managing to luff William.
Congratulations to Toddy and Ron for biting the bullet and entering the series. Toddy just can’t seem to stop laughing (even when he misses out marks!). Toddy had another good day on Sunday – capsized, couldn’t work out where the buoys are (but was told the secret that even marks have a white band). Get out there and join them
Sunday’s racing was held in better winds – too much like hard work for Rhonny (or so she claimed) especially with a full rig. Paul Burnell, Tim Chittenden, Ian Macpherson, and Arnie Helling all went swimming. Roy and Kayla wondered what else could go wrong – decided it could be a collision and it was! Mike Fairlamb, whilst avoiding hitting the committee boat, and taking out the OD, tacked and had to tack again to avoid hitting Roy, but the merging of their boats meant it was time to do some turns!
Stuart Brookes had a good day’s racing, but having to count a DNS put him out of the reckoning. Anyway, after an eventful three races, all was over just after 3pm which gave everyone plenty of time to get home for the football. It was Tim Chittenden that came out on top after counting a 3rd for being OD on Saturday.
