Seventeen boats on a sunny Saturday enjoyed a southerly breeze that initially freshened.
The first start was busy, and there were some near misses (or was it collisions?!). Bassenthwaite hosted GNAC, sponsored by Trident UK, for a fleet of 68 boats. Considering the weather over recent weeks, ironically, the final Saturday of meteorological summer started with an abundance of bright sunshine and a lack of wind, it filled in from the south with some white horses in the narrows at Scarness.

For the last bank holiday of the sailing season, there has been an additional day’s camping. After two wet and stormy nights, there were plenty of sunny intervals for racing on Saturday.

After a busy Bass Week, with another windy forecast, the enthusiasm for racing has yet to return. The few sailors that turned up decided racing wouldn’t be close enough, so racing was cancelled for the day.

This weekend there is a four race series for all classes. The summer weather continues to be elusive, overcast with a light NNE breeze which varied in strength and direction throughout the afternoon.

Weather was milder, and a few more sunny spells, though the W breeze started off slightly lighter than Saturday.
