Weekend Update

5 mins of fame! Well that’s what everyone seemed to want on Saturday afternoon. First there was the OD that decided to ‘follow the guidelines’ and start the F15 first much to the confusion of the handicap fleet, and then kept everyone sailing for ever and a bit more. However, by the time the second race started the wind had picked up and the capsizing had begun.

Toggle was in the driving seat for the second race until after claiming water at the leeward mark (with the unusual hail ‘Water ‘cos Toggle’s coming through!’) from William he promptly hit it, did a turn and capsized. It must be said that one of his earlier attempts at gybing looked very dodgy, but he got away with it.

Toddy swam to the rescue after spotting an RS Feva that had been overturned for some time. He jumped out of his mirror and must have covered 100 yds in front crawl only to find Jonathon had already been taken ashore with a suspected dislocated big toe! Toddy did get back to his boat and finished the race.

There seemed to be many more casualties throughout the race, but it was good to have a bit of wind. A couple of anxious (not) parents watched the excitement from the comfort of the clubhouse, and when Sam Hall headed for the shore it is reported that there was the unexpected exclamation ‘oh good, we can go home early!’

On Sunday, the Bass micro climate struck again. Wind everywhere but on the lake. The first race was delayed until a good southerly moved in tempting the OD to set 7 as the windward mark, but by the time the race started the wind had faded. The sweepstake for the time to the windward mark was won by Lesley, who guessed 30 mins against an actual time of 26 mins. The mirrors’ course was shortened at 7, but the others had to make their way back to B which took another 30 mins. Of course the wind filled in a little after the finish, but it didn’t stay and the afternoon race was held in semi drifting conditions. The OD was a little more cautious with the course in the afternoon to give himself a better opportunity to shorten as necessary which he did (and then the wind filled in again!)
