I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped this weekend to repaint much of the clubhouse. A massive amount has been achieved.
For those who weren’t able to come along, please don’t feel guilty as another day will be arranged in the next few weeks to finish a few things off, followed by an outside working party before the start of the season.
Watch this space for arrangements.

The cold weather and snow may have prevented some of the regulars from attending the children’s Christmas party, but Santa still made it after skating across the frozen lake (don’t try that at home!).
Before his arrival there were various games and a tea party. It was all topped off with some carol singing and Santa handed out presents to each of the children.

As there was only one taker for racing this morning, no racing took place and the results of two weeks ago stand giving Tom Gosden two trophies for next year’s prize giving, having won both the personal and fleet handicap version of the series.
Mike Turner has finished gathering the sponsor monies for his recent swim and is delighted to announce a total of �803 has been collected in aid of the Bedford Oncology Unit. This amount will be increased by the tax man through gift aid declarations.
Mike wishes to reiterate his heart felt thanks for everyone’s sterling efforts (seems the wrong way round!) in enabling such a great donation to be possible.
The 59th Annual Prize Giving dinner dance took place at North Lakes Hotel, Penrith on Saturday 27 November 2010.
After dinner, Ian Preston gave a speech proposing a toast to the club to which Commodore Dave Nicholson responded. Prizes were awarded by Pauline Nicholson.
In addition to the series and championship prizes, the Roger Pryde Memorial Trophy was awarded to Ethan Dawson for his achievement in successfully qualifying to be part of the Topper 4.2 National squad. Christina Tully’s perseverance in numerous aspects of racing was recognised with the award of the Consistency Trophy.

Sunday was a superb autumn day and attracted seventeen members to the Club with the intention of having a further sail. But the wind was at its most fickle, sometimes filling in to make a race start possible and sometimes dying away completely allowing the images of the surrounding fells to be perfectly reflected in the water. This continued until lunchtime after which the race officer decided to abandon racing for the day. This leaves only the one remaining round of the Winter Series to be sailed next weekend before the long winter break commences.
Races three and four of the Winter series were held on Bassenthwaite last Sunday.� The water level had receded somewhat and winds were again light enticing eleven boats onto the Lake.� The Musto Skiff sailed by Robin Dawson is a potentially rapid boat and is handicapped accordingly but it is not designed for light winds and, although it finished ahead on the water in Race one, its lead was not enough to beat the following boats on corrected time and the race win went to Jim Christie in his Supernova from Alan Nicholson in his Solo.� Dawson finished third while the Supernova of Peter Ballard beat the GP14 of Mike Turner / Sue Watson for fourth place by a single second.
The next race produced a different result with Steve Hunt / Ruth Critchley� in their Merlin Rocket beating the Laser of Tom Gosden by a mere eight seconds.� Christie finished third and Nicholson fourth.� With the Series half completed Christie and Gosden share the lead with six points apiece whist Nicholson is third on nine points.
The Youth Squad prize giving took place on Saturday evening. A quote from the stand-in official photographer for the evening Apologies for lack of photos of the Youth Squad Prizegiving but those taken were a load of rubbish – photos not recipients that is!!
For a change, the bonfire night firework display was launched from the jetty. As a result there were some magnificent reflections to be seen on the calm, flooded lake. Thanks to Mik for these images.
