Clueless!?

What does the heading refer to? The OD? – No. A helm? – No. A crew? – No. It was the conditions on Saturday! Although there had been a strong breeze over Friday night and into Saturday morning, by the time racing started, what little wind there was, was all over the place. A slight swell from the south; wind patches in which the wind came from a different direction to the ripples on the water; even burgees were indicating totally different conditions to those filling the sails! It certainly seemed like it was pot luck, and necessary to be in the right place at the right time. All this made it very much harder for Robin Dawson to stay in with a chance of winning the handicap championship. He was working off the basis that he needed a 4th from two races to knock Neil off pole position, but it was only while waiting for some boats to finish that it was pointed out that he would have had better control of the situation by being OD, taking a 3rd and cancelling the last race! Hindsight’s a wonderful thing. Did he do the necessary? You’ll have to wait and see….

Tim Smith and Mike Chappell battled it out to win the first mirror trophy of the season! However, with two straight wins Tim took the trophy.

Saturday evening had naughty nighties and knickers, thongs ‘n’ things, girls’ toys and all sorts of unmentionables when Ann Summers’ rep came to the club. Everyone was in the swing(?) of things especially with the pass the parcel forfeits, including demonstrating air hostess uniforms, what not to do with large vegetables (and getting certificates to prove it!), and being careful to look but not touch some of the exhibits. To see the photos click here (Wonderful thing these camera phones NB Not for the feint hearted!)

Sunday began with threateningly high gusts, and Tim did go for a swim before the start, but the start came and the wind went, leaving all but Steve and Ruth to drift around the course in a relatively close bunch. In the afternoon, the winds seemed to have settled down, but it was not to be the case.
